About Ernst & Young 'Study on the impact of foreign banks'
This paper from one of our partners provides a critical assessment of the costs and benefits of foreign bank ownership. It reviews the extensive literature on the impact of foreign banks and uses a unique database on bank ownership, covering 129 countries, to (re-)examine a number of the issues discussed.
Starting in The Netherlands
The rules for conducting banking activities in the Netherlands are laid down in the Dutch Act on Financial Supervision, Wet op het financieel toezicht (Wft), and the underlying regulations.
This document provides some more information about conducting banking activities in the Netherlands.
The Netherlands is the most attractive country for foreign companies wishing to establish in Western Europe. This is shown in the biannual KPMG study 'competitive alternatives' of costs facing business start-ups in different countries. The costs are the lowest in the Netherlands, followed by the UK and France. Start-up costs in Germany are the most expensive in Western Europe. The Netherlands' leading position in Western Europe is partly thanks to the low cost of (office) facilities, the uniform cost structure and specific incentive schemes for companies active in research & development.
